Secunia Personal Software Inspector is a free, all-in-one program to help discover security vulnerabilities on your computer and solve them quickly, saving you from possible viruses and infections in the future.

The Secunia Personal Software Inspector interface is plain, but comes in two modes - simple and advanced. Another feature that might help beginners is the Show only "Easy-To-Patch" programs option, although the developers don't recommend using it.

Secunia Personal Software Inspector works by scanning your computer and finding any vulnerabilities (such as out-of-date programs and missing security patches) that might make your computer an easier target for hackers, viruses and other problems. Once the app has found them, it lists them and provides a solution.

In the Simple mode, Secunia Personal Software Inspector automatically downloads the update or patch needed. In the Advanced mode, you'll have more options, including fuller details on the problems Personal Software Inspector finds and specific information on End-of-Life programs and your browsers.

The Secunia PSI is an invaluable tool for you to use when assessing the security patch state of software installed on your system. It constantly monitors your system for insecure software installations, notifies you when an insecure application is installed, and even provides you with detailed instructions for updating the application when available.

It is NOT the purpose of the Secunia PSI to detect whether your system has already been compromised or if local changes, settings, or missing requirements could cause the Secunia PSI to report incorrect results. The Secunia PSI relies on the meta-data of executables and library files. The Secunia PSI does NOT conduct an integrity check of the individual files, rather, it checks whether a specific program is vulnerable according to the reported version numbers and not whether the files have been compromised or replaced by other users or programs.

The Secunia PSI is not a replacement for other security measures such anti-virus or personal firewalls, the Secunia PSI is a great supplement to other security measures such as anti-virus and personal firewalls as it helps preventing exploitation of often overlooked exposures.

It would be great if it would work.
I have installed this program and scanned my PC. So it finds end-of-life and unsecure programs. I download the upgrades and install. I perform a new scan and the same list appears. I uninstall the program, reboot, reinstall the latest version. Same problem. So the program does not read the installed versions of the programs correctly.

Best Way To Keep Your PC Secure.
If you really care about how safe your PC is then this is a must have software. It should be run on advanced mode and lists unpatched software, outdated software as well as patched software. It also tells you how secure you are browsing the web and tells you the level of a product's security threat. It is recommended you run an advanced scan once a week. Secunia PSI even let's you download the product's patch if it's available.

will not load and no help.
after a review in the computer press I thought I would try this prog,although I gave permission to my firewall this software hangs when trying to connect to the web,and then refuses to allow addd/remove programs to remove the files. Pros:
